Denmark
Country Profile
During the last couple of years the Danish government has repeatedly announced that support for SRHR is a top priority for Danish development assistance. This is confirmed in the following documents:
- ‘The Right to a Better Life’, adopted in parliament in 2011. The strategy has four overall priority areas of support for Danish ODA, one of which is Social Protection, which notably includes a separate section on the right to SRHR and FP. Currently the Danish MFA is working on developing supporting documents to guide operationalisation of the strategy.
- ‘The Danish strategy on support to SRHR’, a sub-strategy launched by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2006 and reviewed in 2010. The SRHR strategy is still guiding the Danish interventions on SRHR, but the Road Map provides the Operational Framework.
In October 2011, Denmark got a new centre-left government – a coalition government between the Social Democrats, the Peoples Socialist Party and the Social Liberal Party – as well as a new Minister of Development Cooperation, Mr. Christian Friis Bach. The new government announced to that they will raise ODA to 1% of BNI and in the proposed Finance Bill for 2013 a small increase is already forseen.
