Focus on European Donors

European donors are amongst the biggest contributors to funding and support for sexual and reproductive health and rights in developing countries.

This is due to their awareness that SRHR are central to human development and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Countdown 2015 Europe partners work with policy and decision makers, as well as civil society organizations in European countries, to ensure that governments keep family planning on the development agenda.

Staff members of Countdown partner organizations also play active roles in various platforms and networks as Board members and in other capacities. This includes platforms on HIV/AIDS, general global health and poverty alleviation.

In addition, members actively contribute to joint statements and civil society policies and declarations throughout Europe. This helps to illustrate the links between reproductive health/family planning and other development issues, particularly poverty reduction.

However, funding for family planning decreased significantly in recent years.
